According to his bio at Wikipedia, Borle was [and clearly still is] a big Star Wars fan and also loved drawing, so at one point intended to make his career as a comic book artist.
But a friend persuaded him to audition for a play in his sophomore year of high school and he decided he'd rather be an actor instead. He earned his BFA from Carnegia Mellon University in 1995.
He was married to Sutton Foster from 2005 to 2010. The two remain friends.
